Catarsis Personnel & Background
Catarsis was founded in April 1974 and aired the first radio program that month. Throughout the years, it has undergone several changes of personnel. Since 1982, Catarsis lineup has been as follows:
Alfredo "Willy" Chirino: prominent attorney and judge. He loves Berlin-based electronic music and German bands such as Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Edgar Froese, and others from other countries like Cybotron, Heldon, Richard Pinhas, SFF and FM among others. By the same token, Italian, Argentinean and Spanish bands are among his favorites.
Jesús "El Nica" Peraza: English teacher. His name may be misleading. He's just a simple country boy from Guanacaste (guess why they call him like that). Jesús (or Chus) currently lives in New Jersey and functions as a cultural ambassador in the Northeast Coast of the United States. He was first introduced to the realm of the progressive music by his guru Rafa González when he studied in college. Before he became a prog fan, he used to listen to metal bands. The art rock really made an impact on him. He is a real fan of underground and hard rock of the 70s and the best art rock of the last three decades worldwide. According to Chus, he will take two bands to his tomb: Pink Floyd and Deep Purple. Do the math!
Francisco "Chico" Aguilar: economist. He is a true jazz lover. Some of his favorites are Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea and Return Forever. He also likes the Symphonic and Progressive rock.
Freddy "Fripp" Mora: electric engineer and Catarsis sound guy. By reading his alias, you can easily tell he is a King Crimson fan. Likewise, Freddito likes the classical rock of YES, ELP, PINK FLOYD and the new rhythms of Ozric Tentacles, Galadriel, Nuova Era and Marillion.
Federico "Zappa" Mata: attorney and architect: He is a real Zappa guy fan. He's got any Zappa's work you can think of. Mr. Mata also likes to listen to symphonic and progressive rock, as well as jazz and jazz-rock.
Giorgio Murillo: geologist: His favorite bands come from Italy, Spain, Greece and Argentina. He also enjoys listening to any good progressive bands. Needless to say, Mr. Murillo likes the music of YES, ELP, PINK FLOYD, GENESIS, KING CRIMSON, HAPPY THE MAN, FRANK ZAPPA AND VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR.
Mauricio "Licho" Beeche: Businessman: He's really fond of YES and their keyboard player, Rick Wakeman. Groups from the recording label Magna Carta are his favorites, as well as Italian and Argentinean bands. He's currently into jazz.
Arnaldo Rodríguez: computer technician. He joined Catarsis in 1984. He has produced a lot of programs about Spanish rock from México, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Bolivia, Uruguay, Chile y Argentina. He also enjoys other genres like New Age (Ed van Fleet), jazz (Pat Metheny) and the classical progressive rock.
Boris Schosinsky: computer technician. He loves Berlin-based electronic music and British electronic bandas like Redshift, Ian Boddy, Wavestar), British and Italian progressive rock. He doesn't like Argie rock that much.
Sergio Quesada: attorney: He is the experimental music guy. He really likes the RIO genre and bands such as Universe Zero, Samla Mammas Manna, Nazca, Present, Doctor Nerve and the like. As any other Catarsis member, he enjoys the music of Pink Floyd, ELP, YES and so forth.
